-- Update will be coming eventually... -- Posted on 5/23/05 by JeT

The project is still very much alive, and it is properly more active than ever. The word has definitely spread around, I've been getting email weekly from people wanting new games added, etc. I have tried to respond to most of these, but even if I missed you I still have the request written down. I'll be soon figuring out which requests have the top priority and which might not make the cut.

Due to many other projects, and just real like stuff, I have choosen to only make large HQWQ updates every couple months or so, so a new update is very much in the near future.

Also- I updated the "Read about HQWQi" link up in the top box. It now correctly jumps down to the news item pertaining to it. (It worked in IE, but was broken in Fire Fox)

-- Counter-Strike: Source HQWQi Support. -- Posted on 1/7/05 by JeT

Live Example:

Here we are! HQWQi now supports the recently released Counter-Strike: Source. I will be making a regular HQWQ page for CS:S later.

That auto code generater was put on hold while I worked on this, but I'll resume working on it tomorrow.

[ This news post is held as the 'Read about HQWQi' document ]

-- HQWQi is Complete. -- Posted on 1/6/05 by JeT

[ Currently only supports CS 1.6 AND CS:S, EMAIL me if you support the idea of adding more games to HQWQi ]

Live Examples:

Any forum that supports posting a .jpg will support posting your HQWQi server details.

Here is a break-down of what is going on:
When you post your .jpg you are pointing to a file that doesn't even exist on the webserver. This is where the custom 404 script comes into play. The script will read your re-direct URL and I have properly parsed the name for the server details. It works like this:

FORMAT:
http://www.rfhq.com/hqq/img_cs/cs_server--IP--PORT.jpg

EXAMPLE:
http://www.rfhq.com/hqq/img_cs/cs_server--216.213.172.99--27015.jpg

That is all there is to it. Just enter your own server details and your server details will get displayed. All your server details are included in your image name, so there isn't a chance of a forum saying your .jpg isn't legit. You can even use this in your forum signature.

Update! -- Posted on 1/5/05 by JeT

Thanks to a member on the forum (Daid) who directed me to a document showing how to carry over variables through a custom 404 error page I can still work out a sort of hack around the dynamic image issue.

Many forums do not allow dynamic images, so when they see a .php or &port=7777 it isn't going to like it. With a 404 error page you can link to a picture in a folder that doesn't exist, and the 404 will transfer you to the script anyways. This will get around that issue, but the trouble I had was carrying over the IP and PORT of a server after forwarding to the custom 404 error script.

After reading the document I have found out where those variables are stored, and will now be editing the script to properly support this.

This still might require a lil hack of adding .jpg to the end (after the port) to still get past the 'allowed images' filter on certain forums, and that is already possible, as my script will parse the $port variable for a .jpg and remove it when it finds it, so the script will still continue flawlessly.

This is a lot of info, and because it might be confusing to some people I plan to create a form where users can enter their server info and certain options, and then have the script automatically output the proper URL you can use for a forum / website.

UPDATE 2:

I have updated the site design again, this one is probably final now. V1.3.

A Preview! -- Posted on 1/4/05 by JeT

Hehe, I couldn't resist:

[ Preview can be loaded two news posts above this one ]

Yes, those would be nice images generated every time they're viewed. People wanted to post their server details on their forums, so this was the most logical step. Being able to post it as an image in a thread, or to just have it as your forum signature.

And I think the format is probably more compact for people who would just like to add it right onto their website instead of the other method.

I'm sure some of you will be able to figure out how to use it for your own CS 1.6 servers, but for the people who aren't as computer savvy- I will be writing up a guide on how to use it. There are some problems with forums that don't allow dynamic images, etc., that I need to discuss.

The guide will hopefully by up sometime this week.

If this release goes over well then I will start adding this option to the other currently supported games.

Upcoming... -- Posted on 1/4/05 by JeT

Happy new year!

For 2005 I gave the site a little color face-life, I've also better formatted the "Latest Query" sidebar.

But that isn't the big news. I have an update coming out for the Counter-Strike guys, and if it goes well, hopefully for the rest of the games as well.

I'll post more about it tomorrow hopefully, as development comes closer to completion.

Link Updates. -- Posted on 7/12/04 by JeT

Many of the selected test servers in the supported games sidebar were down, so I picked some new ones and everything seems to be viewable again.

New Counter-Strike map images. -- Posted on 7/12/04 by JeT

Many new Counter-Strike map thumbnails have been added to the system, so lots of popular custom maps will now have a screenshot on the HQWQ page.

Battlefield Include Support. -- Posted on 5/30/04 by JeT

I've added include support for the very popular Battlefield 1942 series. After geting numerous requests for it. :p Go to it. :)

UT2003 + UT2004 Demo Support! -- Posted on 3/06/04 by JeT

I have properly added the player listings for ut2004... and on top of that I have added official ut2003 support. So now hqwq supports both of these games.

I also added unreal xmp to the upcoming support sidebar. ;)

UPDATE: I removed xmp from the sidebar.... apparently support will cease for it... It kinda bombed and didn't work out.

UT2004 Demo Support. -- Posted on 3/05/04 by JeT

UT2004 demo support has been almost completely added. It's all done except for the player list. At the moment it shows you the player names in the server, but not the other details. I'll finish it later. For now, you can view everything else. Try it out, it's in the supported games sidebar now.

New Game and Big Fix. -- Posted on 2/21/04 by JeT

I have added support for Unreal Tournament ('99), and my next games will be UT2003 and UT2004 Demo.

I also fixed a huge bug in the BF script. I'm not sure why, but the parsing was totally different from what the servers were returning lately. Was this because of the 1.6 patch recently? If so, weird. But it's fixed now. :)
